Choosing a Venue
The wharf is a popular local venue situated in Tavistock which has the capacity and ability to hold a concert like the one which we are hosting. It is a well known venue which is close to the school therefore would be easy to find for students and parents coming to watch.
In many ways this venue is very suitable to hold our concert, it has an a good sized and suitable auditorium which will hold 200 people. This is more than we would hope for as it would give students who are performing the option to bring multiple people to watch where as venues such as the school hall would not give us the opportunity. This due to the size of the hall and the amount of people that it can hold. Another positive is that is also had a licensed bar, cafe and has full disabled access, this is a positive as we could would organise for the bar and cafe to be opened for refreshments rather than organising our own which would be time consuming and another thing to sort out when we are busy with other preparations.
The wharf also offers us a large range of good quality equipment which would be available for us to use/hire where as at other venues that we have considered such as the Town Hall this wouldn't be available and we would have to pay to hire all of the equipment as well as the fee to hire the hall, therefore although this venue is quite expensive to hire at cost of £600 it may end up working out cheaper than other venues.
Although this venue is very suitable with a large stage, good professional lighting and equipment, a large number of seats the high cost to hire it (£600 not including additional costs) would mean we would have to sell the tickets for a fairly high price at about £4 or £5 to be able to make a decent profit therefore despite its very good points the fact that it is expensive to hire is a drawback which has helped us to make the decision not to hold our concert here.
Tavistock Town Hall
The Town Hall is a beautiful and suitable venue for the concert as it large with a big, spacious stage and seating area to hold as many people as we would like to view the concert. It has toilets and comfortable chairs which we could arrange in a range of different ways. It has a back stage area which would be very useful space for sitting while waiting to go on stage and has easy access to the stage. This venue would be a good place to hold our concert as it is a very nice venue with lots of space and everything that we are looking for. However, it is expensive to hire whereas the Tavistock College school hall is free. Having the concert away from the college means that we would have to transport all of the instruments to the venue which would be time consuming. Also there are fairly steep steps up to the hall may not be very practical and unfortunately there is not a huge amount of parking in the car park compared to other venues such as Tavistock College or The Wharf. Although there are many advantages of this venue the downfalls such as the price and distance from the college out weigh the negatives therefore due to this we have decided not to hold the concert here but in the school hall.
Tavistock College School Hall
There are many advantages to using school hall, the most important is that it is free. Therefore, we will be able to sell the tickets for less in order to make a profit, where as the tickets would have to be a lot more expensive at a venue that we would have to pay for in order to make a profit.
There are a number of positives of the school hall, one of which is that it would not be that difficult to set up, this is because we do not need to transport all of the equipment to another venue which would be time consuming when we will be busy with other things. We also have most of the equipment needed for the production side of the concert apart from a few things such as a star cloth and this wouldn't be particularly expensive to hire. We also have our own technician who could organise all of the lights and sound where as other venues such as the Wharf we may have to hire a technician which would be another additional cost adding to the cost of the already expensive venue.
Despite the many positives of using the school hall a downfall of it is that it cannot hold the large number of people that other venues can, therefore there we may unfortunately have to limit the number of people who can view the concert.
However because this venue is free all the money that we make from the tickets, minus the small amount of money we will spend on hiring the little bits of equipment, will be profit. We can also provide some refreshments that we can get from the school which will be easy and we will make a profit from this as well.
Due to the venue being free and very convenient, we have decided that this is the most suitable place to hold our concert.
